Terms and Conditions Specific to Conifer Cone Collection:
- Cone collection is authorized only within the area designated for cone collection on the map issued with your forest products removal permit; areas collected in one year are not available for collection the next year.
- Cones may only be removed from half of each squirrel midden or cache; half is determined by a vertical line (plane) down the middle, with collection on only one side, ie., half is not the top half.
- Do not collet cones from a squirrel midden or cache that has already been collected from.
- Do not remove or tear out any midden materials (e.g., cone scales, branches, etc.); instead remove cones only.
- Cones may only be collected off trees or middens during the period from September 15 through November 30 of each year.
- Middens selected for cone collection will be marked with flagging as designated by the permitting office, marked by location on a map and / or provide a UTM location with a GPS until in NAD 83. Flagging and maps will be supplied by the ranger district office.
- The district staff will monitor the middens nnually for collection compliance and reuse by the squirrel population on the Forest.
- Terms and conditions may be adjusted as needed to protect and sustain forest resources.
